Mobile Operators Set Up NGMN Group for 4G Standard Development

Several major mobile operators, including China Mobile, NTT DoCoMo, KPN Mobile, Orange, Sprint Nextel, T-mobile, and Vodafone recently announced that they will form a strategic alliance to develop 4G mobile communications standards. This new alliance, named NGMN (Next Generation Mobile Networks), is aiming to complement efforts by other organizations in the area of 4G standards. NGMN will be based in the UK and will be registered as a nonprofit company by the end of July 2006.
